BREAKFAST MEETING: Year-End Income Tax Planning Opportunities

We are pleased to announce that Mary E. Hoyt, Partner, BlumShapiro, will be the guest speaker at our “members only” breakfast meeting on Wednesday, November 14, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.,at The Westport Library.
 
Ms. Hoyt will discuss the current income tax landscape for both individuals and fiduciaries—reviewing the 2012 rates, as well as the changes for 2013. An overview of the 2013 Health Care Surtax will be included. Ms. Hoyt will explore the income tax planning opportunities that are available in this ever-changing environment. She will also touch upon some of the “hot buttons” she and her colleagues are seeing in this practice area.

As a partner in BlumShapiro’s tax group, Mary Hoyt focuses in the estates and trusts area, advising the firm’s clients as well as working with lawyers, bankers and fellow professionals. Her expertise extends to individual taxation and gift tax issues. She has been a featured speaker at numerous seminars for clients, professionals and the general public. Mary served several years as managing partner at Leask & Leask prior to its merger with BlumShapiro. She is a member of the AICPA and CSCPA. She is also serves on Professional Advisors Council of the Fairfield County Community Foundation and on the Housatonic Community College Foundation Board of Directors. Mary received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Sacred Heart University.
 
Council Breakfast Meetings are held at the Westport Public Library (Arnold Bernhard Plaza – Levitt Pavilion Main Entrance), Westport, Connecticut, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The library has asked that attendees arrive promptly at 8:00. They open the door for us at 8:00 even though the library doesn't open until 9:00. Since the library will open early to accommodate us, their Coffee Shop will not be open for service during our meeting. Please feel free to bring coffee, tea, bagels, etc. to the meeting. There is a Starbucks Coffee diagonally across from the Westport Library on the Post Road and Oscar’s Deli is located on Main Street.
 
Reservations to attend can be made by contacting me by email (mabovino@davidsondawson.com) or by telephone (203-966-8759); “first come, first served.” As a courtesy to those who attend, we request that cell phones be silenced during the session. We also request that “No Shows” be minimized.
 
If we must cancel a breakfast meeting, an email will be sent to all registrants for whom we have an email address and we will make every effort to contact all registrants by phone as well. If you are unable to check your email or voice messages, please visit our website at www.epclfc.org where the cancellation announcement will be posted on our home page under “Next Meeting.” Except in unusual circumstances, we would know about the cancellation by 4:00 p.m. the afternoon prior to a breakfast meeting.
 
Finally, please mark your calendars for our next dinner program: Wednesday, December 5, at the Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich. In addition, please note that the program for that night has changed: Susan Porter, Esq., a Senior Advisor at Brown Brothers Harriman Trust Company, NA, will discuss issues to consider in drafting and administering discretionary trusts. Ms. Porter will also discuss potential changes in the tax laws following the 2012 elections. Stay tuned for more details forthcoming shortly.
